The speaker of the house divided
They're still going!
It's been a bonkers day on capital hill. While we're all working on our New Year's Resolutions(I'm on day three of a diet, and I am ornery), the House of Representatives is voting for a new speaker. And depending how you feel about Kevin McCarthy, it's either going well or terribly.
For the first time in a hundred years, the speaker of the house was not selected in the first round of voting. Kevin McCarthy failed to get the required votes needed from the GOP to be speaker.
The dissenters are voting for Jim Jordan. Interestingly enough, Jordan is voting for McCarthy.
So what happens next?
Another round of voting.
But things are starting to get weird. Here's Paul Gosar talking with AOC. New coalition?
This is so strange on many levels

Adding to this is that MTG is voting for McCarthy. Interestingly, both Trump and MTG have been supporters of McCarthy.
Swear Jar
Newly elected politicians are getting sworn in today. Some highlights:
Ron "Heavy D" DeSantis was sworn in for his second term as governor.
JD Vance is officially a Senator and a Hillbilly. We haven't had one of those in a while.
Frankenstein's monster... I mean, John Fetterman
